Rainy Day Cormorant

The rain seemed to make this cormorant especially friendly :)

Guided sea kayaking trip out across Glengarriff Bay...

They are pretty specialized, deep-diving seabirds known for hunting fish by swimming underwater.

They can swim to depths of 45m.

Unlike most seabirds, they have wettable feathers that allow them to sink easily, necessitating their iconic pose of standing with wings outstretched to dry.

A group of cormorants is called a gulp!

Honey Bee, Out Of His Depth In Glengarriff Bay

Calm and misty kayak trip this morning. Apart from seeing an otter, a loon and a pair of eagles; the highlight was coming across this honeybee 🐝 in the water, drowning.

Pulled him out, sat him on the spraydeck for the trip, gave him a bit of mince pie - which he loved 😅

Then as we pulled up on the slipway, he took off headed for the Eccles Hotel and the woods...

Past couple weeks we've had a Frommers journalist who got homemade bacardi + sloe chocolate, an Irish Times journalist with whom we foraged a few nibbles to cook up back at Eccles Hotel and a Tourism Ireland press trip who got home-brewed mulled ale.
