If you have always wanted to get off the beaten track and explore the mountains properly, but lack the right skills; or if a map has always seemed like a random collection of squiggles, then our Mountain Skills Promo is for you!

Our one day workshop will take place outdoors. All abilities will be catered for, from complete beginners to experienced walkers, together with experienced and qualified mountaineering instructors.

You will be given a crash course in map reading, navigation techniques and equipment advice.

Our Mountain Skills Promo is not an alternative to completing Mountain Skills 1, but rather an extra day.

All you need are waterproofs, backpack, map and compass.

Mountain Skills 1 In Wicklow & Mountain Skills 2 In Galway

We have two places left for a Mountain Skills 1 in the Wicklow Mountains this weekend; starting tomorrow; and based from Laragh/Glendalough.

This course covers map reading, contour features, navigation techniques, mountain hazards, personal equipment, timing and pacing.

At the end of this course you will have a solid and comprehensive introduction to the skills needed to be self sufficient in the mountains. You will also have a good understanding of the overall Mountain Skills Scheme. Price: €155pp.


We have added an extra Mountain Skills 2, for 23rd & 24th Nov, in Galway, and based from Kinvara.

This course covers emergency procedures, grid references, navigation techniques, compass bearings, night navigation and steep ground work.

At the end of this course you will be well underway to being self sufficient in the mountains, in most weather and visibility conditions. You will also have a good understanding of the preparation needed to move onto Mountain Skills Assessment.
